Santa Cruz de Tenerife residents are installing protective measures and property administrators are campaigning for respectful behavior ahead of the 2026 Carnival, themed "Latin Rhythms," due to concerns over vandalism and disruption.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival in 2026, themed "Latin Rhythms," is already causing worry for people living in the city center. The Association of Property Administrators (CAF) has warned residents' associations to protect their buildings from the disruptive behaviour often seen during the street party.

The CAF points out the repeated problems of vandalism, urine, and rubbish, which cost hundreds of property owners extra money every year. In fact, local residents have complained on social media about urine in both public and private areas.

To deal with this, many building communities are already putting protective measures in place. This includes installing temporary barriers, like metal sheets or wooden planks, in entrances and shared spaces. The CAF has noticed that for the 2026 Carnival, people are choosing better-looking and reusable solutions, which will help them avoid repeated expenses in future years.

Apart from the physical damage, communities also have to spend a lot on extra services during these busy days. With this in mind, and using the "Latin Rhythms" theme, the CAF has started a social media campaign asking for respectful behaviour. Their aim is to balance the fun of the carnival with residents' right to peace and quiet, and to ensure families living in the middle of the celebrations can coexist peacefully.
