The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has launched a 550,000-euro project to transform a 4,500-square-meter plot in La Monja into a multipurpose community space as part of the "Suroeste Avanza" urban development strategy.

Work has officially begun on transforming a public plot in La Monja, marking a key step in the urban development of Barranco Grande. Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has set aside 550,000 euros to turn the 4,500-square-meter site into a multipurpose space.

This project is part of the "Suroeste Avanza" (Southwest Advances) municipal strategy, designed to address the lack of basic facilities in an area that has seen significant population growth over the last few decades. Beyond creating a temporary parking area, the project will install essential infrastructure, including sewage and rainwater drainage systems, water supply, telecommunications, and public lighting.

Scheduled to take five months to complete, the project follows several meetings between local officials and neighborhood residents. By developing this plot, the city aims to better integrate the space into the local community, providing a much-needed meeting point that improves the quality of life for those living nearby. This initiative reflects the City Council’s commitment to improving connectivity and essential services in a district that has long requested more attention to its urban planning.
