Santa Cruz Begins €375,000 Upgrade of Príncipes de España Health Center Parking
The Santa Cruz City Council has launched a 375,000-euro project to modernize the Príncipes de España health center area, adding 125 parking spaces and improving pedestrian accessibility.
Work has begun to transform the area around the Príncipes de España health center in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, starting with a much-needed upgrade to its parking facilities. The Santa Cruz City Council launched this project as part of its "Impulso Urbano" (Urban Impulse) strategy to fix long-standing infrastructure issues in the capital. Once complete, the site will offer 125 clearly marked parking spaces equipped with essential services that were previously missing.
The 375,000-euro project is expected to take four months to complete. It covers two levels measuring 1,872 and 1,363 square meters. Beyond adding parking, the design prioritizes safety and traffic flow: the area will feature new solar-powered lighting and an internal road to connect the two levels. To improve safety on the uneven terrain, new barriers will also be installed along the boundary with Maximino Acea Perdomo Street.
Accessibility is a key focus of the renovation. The plan includes four dedicated spaces for people with reduced mobility, positioned near the entrances to meet current regulations. The council is also building new, obstacle-free pedestrian paths with non-slip surfaces. Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez noted that these improvements were urgently requested by health center users to address the area’s previous state of neglect and disorganization.
This project is part of a wider city council initiative to renovate neighborhood public spaces through 2030. By modernizing this area, the council aims to improve access to essential healthcare while balancing the challenges of high vehicle traffic with the need for safe, accessible environments for pedestrians.
