Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved a €175,587 contract, funded by the EU's Next Generation EU program, to create a self-guided tour promoting the Tenerife Carnival, expected to be ready in eight months.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council has approved a contract today to create a self-guided tour designed to promote the Tenerife Carnival. This project, funded by the European Union through its Next Generation EU program, is expected to be ready in eight months.

The contract covers several key areas: developing the self-guided tour, creating engaging videos and explanations, adding technology and physical aids so visitors can explore various Carnival-related routes on their own, and installing signs at key spots along the route to clearly mark them.

The contract was awarded to Touristinnovación360 S.L. after they scored highest in the bidding process. The cost for developing and setting up the route is €175,587 (including tax), with an additional €35,128.10 (including tax) set aside for system support and maintenance.

Santa Cruz Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, said this project "is another step forward in modernizing the city's tourism and culture. We're using innovation and digital tools to boost the appeal of the Carnival, one of our most important symbols."

Bermúdez also noted that "getting European funding helps us push forward important projects that add value, diversify what visitors can experience, and strengthen Santa Cruz's image on the world stage."

Councillor Carlos Tarife, who oversees Public Services, Strategic Planning, and Environmental Sustainability, explained that "the self-guided route will make the Carnival more accessible to both locals and tourists all year round, by combining cultural, historical, and hands-on content using easy-to-use and sustainable digital tools."

Tarife added that "this project fits perfectly with the city's planning and sustainability goals, and aligns with European aims for digital change and smart city development."

Ultimately, this self-guided tour aims to boost the Carnival's status as a major cultural and tourist attraction. It will also strengthen Santa Cruz's reputation as an innovative destination that celebrates its unique cultural heritage.
