San Miguel de Abona Launches Voucher Campaign to Revive Economy Hampered by Highway Delays
San Miguel de Abona launches a voucher campaign to support businesses in the Las Chafiras Industrial Estate, which have suffered due to the prolonged delays of the TF-1 highway interchange project.
The San Miguel de Abona Town Hall is launching a campaign to boost the local economy, particularly in areas hit hard by the delayed completion of the TF-1 highway interchange. The focus is on the Las Chafiras Industrial Estate and nearby areas.
The TF-1 interchange project was supposed to take thirty months but is now over three years behind schedule. While the construction is almost complete, the official handover hasn't happened yet, causing significant problems for local businesses.
Businesses in the Las Chafiras Industrial Estate, including Las Andoriñas, Llano del Camello, and Las Chafiras itself, have been struggling for years. Traffic inside the estate has been a major issue, made worse by detours and congestion from the ongoing construction.
To address this, Mayor Arturo González announced a plan to inject funds into the local economy by offering vouchers to encourage people to spend locally. "Businesses in this area have lost a lot of money," he said. "We want to help them out with this initiative."
The campaign will offer two types of vouchers. The town hall will contribute about 80,000 euros towards commercial vouchers and 20,000 euros for restaurant vouchers.
Sergio Martín, the Councilor for Finance, explained that while the funding might not cover all the losses, the goal is to bring shoppers back. "We want to get people coming back here," he stated. "For a long time, it felt like this area was impossible to get to. Now that the work is nearly done, this industrial estate can get back to business."
