The PSOE in San Miguel de Abona has demanded immediate payment for municipal play center staff who have gone two months without wages, warning that the local government's financial mismanagement threatens essential childcare services.

Public services in San Miguel de Abona are under pressure after it was revealed that staff at municipal play centers have not been paid for two months. The local PSOE group warns that this delay threatens the future of these childcare facilities, which are essential for working families in the Tenerife municipality.

Socialist councilwoman Carol Alejandra Correa blames the current Coalición Canaria-led government for the mismanagement. The opposition argues it is unacceptable that while government officials are paid on time, the staff providing this vital service have gone two months without income. They claim this highlights serious budgetary issues within the local administration.

Typically, delays in paying staff or contractors point to problems with a municipality’s treasury or issues in processing expenses. When childcare services are interrupted, it creates a ripple effect, making it difficult for parents to balance their work schedules and impacting the well-being of the community.

The socialist group is calling on the local government to pay the outstanding wages immediately and to put better financial controls in place to ensure staff are paid on time in the future. So far, the City Council has not provided an explanation for the payment delays.
