San Juan de la Rambla’s City Council faces a leadership transition after a motion of no confidence ousted Mayor Juan Ramos amid allegations of administrative mismanagement and internal political instability.

Political instability has hit the San Juan de la Rambla City Council just seven months before the next elections. A motion of no confidence against Mayor Juan Ramos has split the council, ending the partnership between Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party and creating a new alliance between the PSOE, Nueva Canarias, and AUP-Sí se puede.

The motion, which is set to install Jesús Ezequiel Domínguez as the new mayor on November 4th, follows claims of a severe management crisis. Those behind the move argue that administrative paralysis, the loss of key technical staff, and a lack of transparency have put the council’s future at risk. Specifically, the loss of staff in the Secretary’s office and the Local Development department has forced the council to repeatedly request extensions to avoid losing €900,000 in subsidies—a significant amount for a €6 million municipal budget.

AUP-Sí se puede spokesperson Juan Siverio is at the heart of the controversy. After leaving the government team, Siverio cited a breakdown in trust, accusing the mayor of ignoring warnings about the council's direction and making unilateral decisions that harmed local residents and organizations. The mayor’s stability has been further undermined by an ongoing investigation into alleged administrative embezzlement.

While the outgoing administration calls the move an act of political disloyalty, the promoters of the motion insist they are trying to fix the council's management during the final months of the term. However, the transition is expected to be difficult, with the incoming officials expressing concern that the current administration may hinder the handover of power.

Internal tensions have also surfaced. Councilwoman Yanira Mesa did not sign the motion, which her colleagues attributed to her current medical leave, distancing her from the party’s new political strategy. As San Juan de la Rambla enters this period of interim government, the focus remains on managing urgent projects and restoring public services that critics claim have steadily deteriorated in recent months.
