San Juan de la Rambla Hosts Carlos A. Schwartz Photography Exhibition
San Juan de la Rambla is hosting Carlos A. Schwartz’s photography exhibition Images-Words at the La Alhóndiga Cultural Space this April to promote literature and community engagement before the collection travels to Paris.
San Juan de la Rambla is highlighting the importance of books and literature this April. The local council has announced that the town will host an artistic project that serves as a lead-up to its upcoming literary events.
The exhibition, titled Images-Words, is organized by the CajaCanarias Foundation and opens at the La Alhóndiga Cultural Space this Tuesday, April 7, at 5:30 p.m. It features 160 black-and-white photographs by architect and photographer Carlos A. Schwartz. His work offers an intimate look at the world of books, documenting the people who work in the literary industry and the spaces—such as libraries, bookstores, and private collections—that preserve our knowledge.
Beyond its visual appeal, the exhibition aims to revitalize local culture. Mayor Juan Ramos and Councilor for Culture Juan Siverio noted that the event is a key part of a monthly program designed to encourage critical thinking and community involvement. The project has a reach beyond the local area; after its two-week stay in San Juan de la Rambla, where it will be open daily from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., the collection will travel to the Instituto Cervantes in Paris.
The opening event will be attended by Carlos A. Schwartz and Fernando Sánchez of the CajaCanarias Foundation, with support from the Martín Rodríguez Cultural Association. This exhibition reflects a growing effort by institutions to bring culture to smaller communities, using photography to show how reading is essential to an informed society.
