San Juan de la Rambla faces political instability as councilor Juan Siverio’s resignation fuels rumors of a potential motion of no confidence against Mayor Juan Ramos amid ongoing embezzlement allegations.

San Juan de la Rambla’s local government is facing a major shake-up after Juan Siverio, a councilor for the Sí se puede party, resigned from all his official duties. While Siverio will keep his seat on the council, his move has sparked rumors of an imminent motion of no confidence, just seven months before the local elections.

The tension reached a breaking point at a recent municipal board meeting. Siverio broke ranks with the government team to vote with the PSOE, supporting their demand that the City Council join the legal case against Mayor Juan Ramos. The mayor is currently under investigation for alleged administrative embezzlement following an inquiry by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Provincial Prosecutor's Office.

A new majority appears to be forming to challenge the current leadership. According to municipal sources, the motion would be backed by Siverio, the four Socialist councilors, and Juan Alberto Pérez González of Nueva Canarias. If successful, this shift would see Jesús Ezequiel Domínguez return as mayor.

Those pushing for this change argue that the current administration has caused a standstill in local services and investment projects. They also cite concerns over a lack of transparency and the legal cloud hanging over the mayor, which they claim has hindered the council's ability to function. Siverio has promised to provide a full explanation for his resignation soon, as the town enters a period of political uncertainty that could reshape its government before the end of the term.
