San Juan de la Rambla Faces Institutional Crisis Following Motion of No Confidence
San Juan de la Rambla faces an institutional crisis after AUP-Sí se puede councilor Juan Siverio filed a motion of no confidence against Mayor Juan Ramos, effectively breaking their governing coalition.
Political instability has returned to the San Juan de la Rambla City Council. Mayor Juan Ramos (Coalición Canaria) has publicly accused his coalition partner, AUP-Sí se puede councilor Juan Siverio, of breaking their government agreement. Siverio has filed a motion of no confidence, backed by the PSOE and Nueva Canarias, triggering an institutional crisis that threatens the future of the current administration.
Ramos blames Siverio for the move, noting that it violates a signed agreement that explicitly prohibited motions of no confidence and required partners to maintain a united front. The mayor claims this is not the first time Siverio has abandoned a coalition, citing similar behavior in previous terms.
The situation is further complicated by divisions within AUP-Sí se puede. Ramos clarified that councilor Yanira Mesa, who represents the same party, was unaware of Siverio’s plans. By isolating Siverio, the mayor highlights the irony of his alliance with parties that had previously called for the dismissal of his own team members.
The mayor’s office has questioned the logic behind this new opposition bloc, arguing that any internal disagreements could have been resolved through existing dialogue channels. This crisis has now reignited a broader debate in local Canarian politics regarding the reliability of political pacts and the motives behind such sudden shifts in power.
