San Cristóbal de La Laguna Police End 18-Month Manhunt Following Routine Traffic Stop
San Cristóbal de La Laguna police arrested a 29-year-old fugitive wanted for theft following a routine traffic stop and a brief foot pursuit near Las Chumberas.
Local police in San Cristóbal de La Laguna have ended an 18-month manhunt following a routine patrol. Officers from Operational Group 4 arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as J.L.P.M., proving the value of regular traffic checks in catching individuals who evade the law by frequently moving locations.
The arrest occurred last Tuesday at approximately 4:30 p.m. near Las Chumberas. During a standard vehicle and documentation check, the suspect abandoned his car and attempted to flee on foot. Officers pursued him through the neighborhood before successfully catching and detaining him.
The man, a resident of Finca España with a history of theft in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, was wanted by local courts. His arrest follows an active warrant issued after a National Police investigation, highlighting how difficult it can be to track down individuals who manage to avoid the judicial system for long periods.
After a mandatory medical check, the suspect was taken to the National Police station on Calle Nava y Grimón. He remains in custody awaiting a court appearance. The incident underscores the importance of cooperation between local and national police forces in addressing repeat offenses across the islands.
