San Cristóbal de La Laguna Hosts 2026 Cristo Festival This Weekend

San Cristóbal de La Laguna is set to host the main events of the 2026 Cristo Festival this weekend, from September 11 to 13. The city’s official schedule blends local traditions with large-scale entertainment, turning the historic center and the Plaza del Cristo into the heart of the island’s cultural scene.

The festivities begin this Friday at 9:00 p.m. with a major concert by Los Cantadores. Celebrating nearly 20 years together, the group will be joined on stage by special guests Pitingo and Lucrecia. Large crowds are expected for this opening performance.

Saturday offers a wide variety of activities. A craft fair will run from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. along the Camino Largo and Avenida de la Universidad, continuing throughout the weekend. The day also features the Institutional Wrestling Match, a parade of university "tunas" (student musical groups), and the "Tardeo Salsero," which includes performances by Virginia Guantanamera, Moisé González and his orchestra, and Ruta Salsera Tenerife. The night concludes with the "Megaverbenazo" at 10:00 p.m., featuring Armonía Show, Grupo Bomba, Ledes Díaz, and Victoria Escudero.

Sunday focuses on family-friendly events and local heritage. The morning features children’s workshops and games, followed by the play Las historias del genio at 12:00 p.m. The most significant event of the day is the parade of La Pandorga and the Caballitos de Fuego at 8:00 p.m.; please note that traffic in the city center will be restricted starting at 7:30 p.m.

The festival wraps up on Sunday night, ahead of the holiday on Monday the 14th, with the "Night of Traditions." Starting at 9:00 p.m., this event honors the Los Parranda family and the former Bincheni Folk Group of Taco, with performances by Domingo Rodríguez "El Colorao" and the group Taburiente. The celebrations will end at midnight with a fireworks display, highlighting the festival’s role in bringing the community together and supporting the local economy.
