San Cristóbal de La Laguna Hosts 13th Annual Craft Fair to Support Local Artisans
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is hosting its 13th annual Craft Fair this weekend, featuring over 30 artisans dedicated to preserving traditional trades and supporting the local economy.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna is celebrating its 13th Craft Fair this weekend, turning the Plaza de la Concepción into a hub for local tradition and business. Running from Friday, October 16, to Sunday, October 18, the event aims to protect traditional trades against the rise of mass-produced goods.
Organized by the Department of Promotion and Local Development, the fair features over 30 professionals. It offers more than just a chance to shop directly from makers; it serves as a space to share knowledge and skills. Visitors will find a wide variety of crafts, ranging from classic pottery, lace, jewelry, and leatherwork to modern designs using recycled materials, felt, and macramé.
The fair is a key part of the city’s strategy to support small, family-run businesses. Councilor Domingo Galván explained that the event has two main goals: to highlight the importance of these crafts to Canarian culture and to encourage a new generation to take up these trades. By showcasing the quality of handmade items, the city hopes to show the public why supporting local artisans is so vital.
The fair will be open throughout the day on Friday and Saturday, with the event concluding at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. This annual gathering continues to be a vital bridge between ancestral techniques and the modern economy, helping to ensure that traditional skills remain a part of our future.
