RTVE has announced the 2026 return of its iconic summer entertainment show, featuring host Ramón García and expanded eligibility criteria to include smaller rural towns.

RTVE has confirmed that its long-running summer entertainment show will return in 2026. Once again hosted by Ramón García, the program is planning a larger-scale production to build on the success of a format that has entertained generations since the 1990s.

The biggest change for the upcoming season is a shift in the entry requirements. To encourage more participation from smaller rural areas, the network has lowered the population threshold. Previously, only towns with between 5,000 and 10,000 residents could compete; for 2026, the range will be 3,000 to 10,000 residents. This change is part of a strategy to better represent Spain’s diverse geography and give smaller communities a chance to showcase their local culture on a national stage.

Among the twelve towns selected to compete is San Juan de la Rambla in Tenerife. As the only representative from the Canary Islands, the town will play a significant role in the show, offering a unique opportunity to highlight its local traditions to a massive audience.

The show’s enduring popularity comes down to its mix of physical challenges and community spirit, which has helped it remain a hit despite the changing television landscape. By bringing together participants from across the country, the program fosters a sense of national unity through lighthearted, friendly competition. With these plans, the public broadcaster continues its commitment to a model of television that celebrates citizen involvement and the diversity of Spain’s regions.
