Tenerife will renovate the Southern Highway and restore the La Centinela viewpoint.
Tenerife has announced tenders for large-scale landscaping of the TF-1 South Highway and the restoration of the La Centinela viewpoint, as well as allocated funds to support LGBTQIA+ projects and the recovery of endangered species.
Tenerife is planning a large-scale renovation of the Southern Highway!
The Governing Council has approved the tendering of a major project to improve the landscape and road safety. This was announced by the President of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, together with the Vice-President of the island, Lope Afonso.
According to Rosa Dávila, this project is another step towards improving the TF-1 and surrounding areas. Recently, 30 million euros have already been invested in repairing the road surface in the Arico, Fasnia and Güímar sections. "We want our main roads to be in perfect condition for all drivers," she added.
What exactly are they planning to do?
- Landscaping of the slopes near MercaTenerife (on the right side when driving south, between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the junction to MercaTenerife).
- 3.3 million euros will be allocated for this, and the work will last 8 months.
- About 60,000 square meters will be landscaped. This is important because this is the first landscape that tourists see when entering Santa Cruz de Tenerife from the south.
In addition, the Governing Council has approved a tender for the restoration of the La Centinela viewpoint (between the municipalities of San Miguel and Arona). This will cost 1.4 million euros and the work will last 9 months.
The La Centinela viewpoint has been in need of repair for a long time. This project is being implemented jointly with the Government of the Canary Islands and the municipalities of San Miguel de Abona and Arona. The goal is to restore and develop this place, which is of great importance both from the point of view of history (because there is a unique archaeological zone here) and from the economic point of view. It is planned to renovate the building and open an information center about the archaeological heritage of the Abona region.
Some more good news:
- Municipalities with a population of less than 30,000 will receive subsidies for projects that support LGBTQIA+ (total amount - 60,000 euros).
- Gesplan will restore endangered plant and animal species in Tenerife (approximately 600,000 euros have been allocated for this).
- The plan for the development of cultural infrastructure has been extended until 2029, so that municipalities have time to complete all projects.
