Rolando Díaz Presents "Adiós Cuba" at TEA Tenerife
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will host the Canary Islands debut of Rolando Díaz's award-winning film Adiós Cuba, exploring the Cuban exodus, this Friday through Sunday at 7:00 PM, with the director introducing each screening.
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes, located in Tenerife's capital, will show the film Adiós Cuba this Friday through Sunday at 7:00 PM. This drama, directed by Rolando Díaz, explores the lives of Cubans living outside their home country, particularly in Spain and elsewhere. The main actors, Yuliet Cruz, Betiza Bismark, and Frank Moreno, are very familiar with this topic, as they themselves have left Cuba.
Adiós Cuba won the Audience Award at the Trieste Latin American Film Festival. It blends fictional storytelling with documentary-style clips. The movie is making its debut in the Canary Islands, following its screening at the Miami Film Festival. It tells a story that highlights both personal journeys and the broader impact of exile and changing identities.
Rolando Díaz, the director, will introduce each of the three screenings. On Friday, after the film, he will also join a discussion with Emilio Ramal, who leads the Audiovisuals department at TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
The film follows Caridad, a theater director living in exile in Valencia. She wants to create a play about the Cuban exodus. To gather material, she talks to men and women from around the world who share their personal stories, many of which involved great risk. Using these real-life accounts, Caridad hopes to create a powerful play that brings out emotion, pain, and even laughter, showing that humor can be found even in difficult times.
Rolando Díaz first gained international fame in 1984 with Los pájaros tirándole a la escopeta, a film that was a significant moment in Cuban cinema. His other works include Si me comprendieras (1999) and Dossier de ausencias (2020). Since 1994, Díaz has lived in the Canary Islands, where he continues his filmmaking, often focusing on stories related to the Cuban diaspora.
