Reventón El Paso 2026 Kicks Off With Record Youth Participation and Economic Boost
The 2026 Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express has officially commenced in La Palma, drawing thousands of visitors and a record number of youth participants to the island's premier trail running event.
The 2026 Reventón El Paso Fred.Olsen Express is officially underway, once again proving its importance to both the sporting world and the economy of La Palma. Organizers kicked off the event with the opening of the Runner’s Fair, which has become the central hub for the race’s social and commercial activity.
The event is expected to draw 12,000 visitors, who will explore a 600-square-meter space featuring around twenty exhibitors. This highlights the race’s significance not just for trail running, but as a key opportunity for local and regional businesses to gain visibility. The fair also serves as the base for the more than 2,000 registered athletes to collect their race bibs, browse official merchandise, and enjoy interactive experiences.
The official opening ceremony was attended by El Paso Mayor Eloy Martín, members of his council, and Mónica Gómez, the Cabildo de La Palma’s Minister of Environment. The presence of major sponsors and elite trail runners—including Azara García, Aroa Sío, Mario Olmedo, and Josep Miret—further cements the race’s status on the national sporting calendar.
Meanwhile, the event is also investing in the next generation. The children’s races at the Hacienda del Pino de la Virgen reached a record high of 306 participants from 32 clubs and schools across the Canary Islands. With 177 boys and 129 girls competing, the Canary Islands Championship for minors has become a leading event for promoting healthy habits and environmental awareness among children aged 4 to 17.
Omar Hernández, Councilor for Sports and Tourism, noted that the growth in youth participation is part of a deliberate effort to teach character through sport. With 136 athletes registered in the U10 and U8 categories alone, local authorities see this trend as a positive step toward ensuring the future of trail running and fostering a lifelong respect for the natural environment.
