Retired Police Commander Locates Missing Tenerife Woman in Four Hours
A retired National Police commander successfully located a missing Tenerife woman in four hours by leveraging personal connections, confirming she was safe on vacation in Cuba.
A recent case reported by El Día highlights how personal connections and professional experience can resolve family emergencies quickly, even outside of official police channels. A retired National Police commander managed to locate a missing young woman from Tenerife in just four hours, ending a period of intense worry for her family in Adeje.
The situation began last Tuesday when the parents of the woman, who is in her 20s, reached out to the former officer. They had not heard from their daughter since the previous Saturday, which was highly unusual, and they were already preparing to file a formal missing persons report.
The retired inspector began his investigation by coordinating with the local police in Guía de Isora, where the woman lives with her partner. After checking their home and speaking with neighbors, who confirmed the couple had been away for some time, the investigation shifted to the boyfriend’s family.
The breakthrough came when the woman’s mother provided a photograph. The inspector identified the boyfriend’s mother as a former employee of a local business in Adeje. By tracking down her contact information, he was able to reach out directly. By 11:00 p.m. that night, the boyfriend finally contacted the parents to confirm that he and his girlfriend were safe and on vacation in Cuba.
This incident shows how vital quick action is during the first few hours of a disappearance, as it prevented the need for a formal police investigation. While the outcome was positive, the case also highlights a breakdown in communication; the young woman had traveled internationally without telling her family. In more serious circumstances, such a lack of communication would have triggered complex and costly search operations. The family has since expressed their relief and gratitude that the matter was resolved without further distress.
