Renovation Begins at Los Roques Viewpoint in San Juan de la Rambla
San Juan de la Rambla has launched an eight-week renovation project at the Los Roques beach viewpoint to replace rusted railings and improve accessibility following a successful Participatory Budget request from local residents.
Renovation work has begun at the Los Roques beach viewpoint in San Juan de la Rambla, following a request from local residents through this year’s Participatory Budget. According to the local council, the project aims to repair damage caused by constant exposure to salt air and natural wear at the site, located on La Malaya Street in the historic center.
The contract has been awarded to Obras y Servicios 2013 SL, with the project expected to take eight weeks to complete. The main focus is replacing the current metal railing—which is rusted and structurally unstable—with a new one made of ipe wood. This material was chosen for its durability against marine corrosion, which will help reduce the need for future maintenance.
In addition to the new railing, the project includes repairing the pavement and restoring the masonry wall to ensure the viewpoint matches the surrounding area. The renovation also incorporates accessibility improvements to meet current public space standards.
Local officials view the project as a success for the Participatory Budget process. Councilor Juan Siverio noted that the program effectively turns resident requests into real improvements, while Mayor Juan Ramos emphasized that the work is essential for ensuring public safety and preserving the town’s landscape. These types of projects are vital for coastal communities, where maintaining public spaces against environmental erosion is a constant challenge.
