Tenerife-born author Rafael-José Díaz presents his new collection, Ojos que ven abismos, a comprehensive anthology of short fiction written between 2010 and 2019, at La Laguna's El Refugio bookstore this evening.

Rafael-José Díaz marks a significant milestone in his career with the release of Ojos que ven abismos. This new collection, published by Mercurio, gathers the short stories the Tenerife-born author wrote between 2010 and 2019. The book will be officially presented this evening at 7:00 p.m. at El Refugio bookstore in La Laguna, with writer Víctor Ruiz joining the author for the event.

The volume features 97 pieces, providing a detailed look at Díaz’s creative growth during a decade defined by his move from Madrid back to the Canary Islands in 2015. This shift between two worlds shapes a collection that moves away from traditional storytelling. True to Díaz’s introspective and experimental style, the writing often leans toward the lyrical, blurring the lines between genres.

The book serves as a complete archive of the author's recent short fiction. It includes stories previously released in limited editions—specifically El letargo (2016) and De un modo enigmático (2020)—alongside a brand-new section titled Cuando llegaron los cadáveres. By bringing these works together, the collection offers readers a comprehensive view of a decade of writing, highlighting the stylistic evolution of one of the most distinct voices in contemporary Canarian literature.
