The Punta del Hidalgo campsite in Tenerife has officially reopened as a year-round, modernized facility featuring digital booking, improved accessibility, and enhanced sustainable infrastructure.

The Punta del Hidalgo campsite in Tenerife has officially reopened, marking a major step forward for local outdoor tourism. After closing for technical updates in early 2025, the site is now a permanent, year-round facility managed by the San Cristóbal de La Laguna municipality. Mayor Luis Yeray Gutiérrez and Public Works head Ángel Chinea confirmed that the site will no longer operate on a seasonal basis.

The upgrade introduces a new digital booking and payment system, a long-awaited improvement for campers and caravan users. The 24,000-square-meter site has been completely renovated, with new furniture and a reinforced perimeter designed to withstand the harsh coastal salt air.

The project also prioritizes sustainability and accessibility. In a first for the municipality, the site now features a restroom specifically adapted for ostomy patients, developed in partnership with the Association of Ostomates of the Canary Islands (AOCAN). Other improvements include new recreational areas, children’s playgrounds, laundry facilities, and the planting of aromatic vegetation around the nearby Teidagua treatment plant to help manage odors.

Looking ahead, the La Laguna City Council plans to further expand the site with the addition of a solarium. This project reflects a broader shift toward decentralized tourism in the Canary Islands, using digital tools to make public outdoor spaces more efficient and accessible for everyone.
