Santa Cruz City Council announced a €1.3 million, 16-month project to revitalize Puerto Escondido Street starting in May 2026, including pedestrianization, infrastructure upgrades, and improved street furniture.

Puerto Escondido Street is getting a makeover! The plan is to create a smooth, pedestrian-friendly area by making the street level all the same.

This means some changes:

  • Traffic will be reorganized.
  • Essential services like electricity, phone lines, water, and drainage will be updated.
  • Sections of nearby streets that are affected will be torn up and repaved.
  • New lighting, benches, and trees will be added.

The Santa Cruz City Council shared these plans with locals and businesses on Wednesday. Work is expected to start in May 2026 and will take about 16 months, with a budget of €1.3 million.

Mayor José Manuel Bermúdez said this project "is another step in breathing new life into the city center, making the streets safer, more accessible, and better for the environment. It's important that residents get involved to help us tailor the project to their needs."

Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services, added that "improving Puerto Escondido will not only modernize the area's infrastructure but also improve the lives of residents and businesses. They've been asking for improvements like this. We appreciate the support from the Canary Islands Government."

This project is being coordinated with other nearby street improvements, including the ongoing work on La Rosa Street, the planned upgrades to Santiago Street, and connecting the drainage system to Anaga Avenue through El Saludo and Emilio Calzadilla streets.
