Crime rates in Puerto de la Cruz dropped by 13.56% in 2025 following a 600,000-euro investment in police modernization and community-focused patrols.

Public safety in Puerto de la Cruz has seen a significant improvement over the past year. According to local council data, crime rates in the Tenerife town dropped by 13.56% in 2025 compared to the previous year. This decline is a positive sign for the community, especially as safety is a top priority for tourist-heavy towns where a sense of security is vital for the local economy.

The local government—a coalition of Coalición Canaria, the Partido Popular, and Asamblea Ciudadana Portuense—credits this success to a new approach to managing the Local Police. By investing over 600,000 euros, the town has modernized its police force, adding six new motorcycles and two additional officers. These upgrades are designed to help police respond to incidents more quickly and increase patrols in busy commercial and tourist areas.

Mayor Leopoldo Afonso, who also oversees Citizen Security, welcomed the results, noting that they reflect the town's commitment to a more community-focused policing model. He believes the focus on prevention and faster response times is essential for balancing the needs of residents with the constant flow of visitors. Ultimately, the strategy aims to keep the town safe and stable, supporting its tourism industry while ensuring the well-being of those who live there.
