Puerto de la Cruz Launches Major Revitalization Plan for Costa Martiánez Complex
Puerto de la Cruz has launched a comprehensive revitalization plan for the César Manrique-designed Costa Martiánez complex, focusing on infrastructure repairs, enhanced dining services, and modernized management to boost the site's long-term competitiveness.
Puerto de la Cruz City Council has launched a major plan to revitalize the Costa Martiánez Tourist Complex. Recognizing the site as a vital economic engine for Tenerife and a unique architectural masterpiece by César Manrique, the local government is moving away from traditional management to address years of wear and tear.
Coordinated by the Finance and Complex departments, the strategy aims to fix long-standing maintenance issues and damage caused by the coastal climate. Immediate improvements include replacing 3,150 sun loungers and 2,300 umbrellas, as well as restoring the hydromassage pool. Technical teams are also working to upgrade pump rooms and repair damage caused by marine erosion.
Beyond physical repairs, the council is focused on boosting the complex’s profitability and reputation. A key part of this is professionalizing the venue's dining options, beginning with a pilot project at 'La Terraza.' In partnership with PAMARSA and Excelencia Turística de Canarias, this initiative aims to offer higher-quality food and leisure experiences, supported by specialized staff training.
Following the success of last year’s children’s entertainment trial, the council is planning a more ambitious summer program. Mayor Leopoldo Afonso noted that these efforts align with the city’s broader goal of elevating its gastronomic profile, following the town's recent Michelin star achievement.
The local administration confirms that PAMARSA’s current financial stability allows for these investments. The goal is to use the lessons from this pilot project to modernize all business units within the complex, ensuring it remains a competitive destination for years to come.
