Puerto de la Cruz Hosts 53rd Annual Oktoberfest Featuring Official Munich Brew

Puerto de la Cruz marks a major milestone in German-Canarian cultural tourism this weekend as it hosts its 53rd annual Oktoberfest. Organized by the local Center for Initiatives and Tourism (CIT), the event has been a symbol of cultural diplomacy between the two regions since 1973.

A key highlight this year is the return of authentic Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier. Because this beer is brewed exclusively for the Munich festival, attendees in Tenerife will be able to enjoy the official brew even before the original event begins in Bavaria. This commitment to tradition helps solidify the town’s reputation as a unique destination that successfully blends Bavarian culture with local Canarian life.

The festivities take place from August 28 to 30 at the Muelle Esplanade, serving as the grand finale to a week of cultural activities across the municipality. The musical lineup features a mix of Central European traditions and local energy, with performances by the 101 Brass Band, the Txaranga Band Tocats, The Vid Band, and the Reinheitsgebot Orchestra.

Organizers have also focused on family-friendly and socially responsible programming. Sunday, August 30, will feature a "Children’s Oktoberfest" for ages 4 to 14, as well as "Dogtoberfest," an initiative that promotes responsible pet ownership by providing dedicated welfare zones for dogs.

The event is free to attend and is made possible through a partnership between the Puerto de la Cruz City Council, the Island Council of Tenerife, and various local tourism and service businesses. This public-private collaboration ensures the festival continues to thrive, fulfilling its original mission of strengthening ties between the Canary Islands and Germany through a vibrant, transnational cultural exchange.
