The 14th Periplo International Travel and Adventure Literature Festival in Puerto de la Cruz is currently hosting a series of discussions on migration, democratic memory, and personal resilience through storytelling.

The 14th edition of the Periplo International Travel and Adventure Literature Festival in Puerto de la Cruz is currently exploring themes of displacement, migration, and personal independence. Running until this Sunday, the festival examines how history and the migrant experience shape our modern identities.

Wednesday’s program focuses on resilience and human rights. A key event is "Borders of Identity" at 8:30 p.m., featuring LGTBIQ+ activist Ramtin Zigorat and journalist Ebbaba Hameida. Zigorat will share his personal story of fleeing political persecution in Iran and arriving in Spain as a refugee in 2019. His work highlights the vital need for support systems within migrant communities.

Family history as a form of political resistance is also a major theme this year. At 5:00 p.m. in the Sotavento Tent, Rosalba Rodríguez de la Sierra and Sergio Millares will discuss their book, Now I Ask, Before I Didn't: History of a Canarian Family. Moderated by Eduardo García Rojas, the session explores how the 1936 coup and the subsequent dictatorship affected Canarian society, contributing to the ongoing national conversation on democratic memory.

Additionally, the Lago Martiánez Tent will host two sessions on personal growth through storytelling. At 6:00 p.m., Óscar Liam and Leo Santisteban will present Las Galletas, which uses the memories of Liam’s grandmother to document how a community has changed over time. At 7:15 p.m., sailor Capucine Trochet will discuss her book, Tara Tari: My Wings, My Freedom. Moving beyond traditional travel writing, Trochet reflects on how pushing physical boundaries and connecting with nature can fundamentally change a person’s life and perspective.
