Puerto de la Cruz City Council has finalized an agreement with the Tenerife Bishopric to redevelop the former Hogar Santa Rita site in Punta Brava into a new facility featuring underground parking, public green space, and community amenities.

Punta Brava in Puerto de la Cruz is set for a major transformation following a new agreement between the City Council and the Tenerife Bishopric. The deal clears the way to redevelop the former Hogar Santa Rita site, ending decades of uncertainty for the coastal neighborhood.

Despite opposition from the Socialist group, the City Council has approved a plan to reorganize the land. The centerpiece of the project is a new 300-space parking lot. To help solve the area’s long-standing parking shortage, half of these spaces will be reserved for local residents for the next 40 years.

The project involves demolishing the existing structure and building a new facility that integrates an underground parking level. By moving the parking underground, the plan frees up space at ground level for a new 284-square-meter public building. The overall design also includes over 300 square meters of new green space and public recreation areas, helping the site blend better into the surrounding neighborhood.

Heritage Councilor Pedro Antonio Campos García expects construction to begin by the end of 2026. With the necessary administrative approvals now in place, the project is moving into the bidding phase. Mayor Leopoldo Afonso highlighted the project as a strategic move to fix long-standing local issues, noting that there is already significant interest from businesses to help bring this plan to life.
