The 24th Mueca International Street Art Festival returns to Puerto de la Cruz from May 7 to 10. Organizers have announced the first acts for this year’s event, which runs under the theme #tejiendoMUECA. The festival continues its tradition of turning public spaces into vibrant stages for theater, dance, music, and circus performances.

This year’s lineup features a strong international presence. The Australian company Circa will perform Wolf, a show that pushes the boundaries of physical choreography. From Finland, the duo Kate & Pasi will present Suhde, a contemporary circus piece exploring human relationships. The program also includes the Spanish group Zanguango Teatro with El peor espectáculo del mundo, de momento (The Worst Show in the World, for Now) and Argentine artist Tadeo Campanotto, who will showcase traditional circus skills like juggling and unicycling.

Beyond the performances, Mueca remains a leader in participatory cultural management. The "Cómplice Mueca" platform, created 15 years ago to navigate budget challenges, has become a cornerstone of the festival’s success. This model of public-citizen collaboration is now a recognized standard in Spain, proving that co-management can keep cultural projects thriving despite shifting institutional support.

The festival also hosts "Conexión Mueca," a professional hub for programmers, creators, and managers to share ideas and build partnerships. Through the work of "Mueca consuls"—cultural ambassadors who promote the festival’s vision abroad—the event continues to grow its influence, solidifying its place as a key destination in the international performing arts circuit.
