PSOE Slams Granadilla Social Services Delays Under New Government
The PSOE in Granadilla de Abona accuses the current CC, PP, and Vox government of causing significant delays in social services, leaving vulnerable residents waiting over two months for essential support.
Social services in Granadilla de Abona, which are vital for supporting the most vulnerable residents, have become a major topic of political discussion again. The Socialist Party (PSOE) in the town claims that since the current local government – made up of Coalición Canaria (CC), Partido Popular (PP), and Vox – took office, people are waiting much longer for these essential services.
This delay directly affects those in need, with some waiting two months or more for a response. The PSOE, which previously ran the council for 20 months, highlights a different approach during their term. They state that they significantly cut down waiting times, offering appointments in less than a week. They also introduced an emergency social worker to handle urgent situations immediately.
Jennifer Miranda, spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group and former mayor, voiced her party's concern. She believes the previous social care system, which put citizens first, is now being negatively impacted. Adán García, who was the Councilor for Community Welfare during the socialist government, recalled that their political commitment and good organization allowed for quick and respectful help, especially for the most vulnerable. García added that the current long waiting times force people with urgent needs, including those who are sick, to endure a prolonged and difficult wait.
The Socialist Party has urged the three-party government, led by José Domingo Regalado, to seriously address how Social Services are managed. They warn that a lack of planning or care in this very sensitive area is unacceptable. They demand that what they see as a decline in care for the municipality's residents be reversed.
