The Granadilla de Abona Socialist group has criticized the local government for significant delays and administrative inefficiencies in the renovation of the Charco del Pino football field.

The management of sports facilities in Granadilla de Abona has become a point of political tension, with the local Socialist group (PSOE) criticizing the current government’s handling of the Charco del Pino football field renovation. Jennifer Miranda, the PSOE spokesperson and former mayor, claims the project is significantly behind schedule.

The project, backed by 800,000 euros in the 2025 municipal budget, stems from a December 2023 agreement with the Tenerife Inter-island Football Federation. This agreement was intended to clear the way for municipal work. The PSOE argues that because the previous administration had already drafted the technical plans and secured the funding, the project should have been completed quickly.

However, the timeline has been plagued by delays. Following a change in local government in March 2025, the administrative process slowed, taking six months to bid and three months to award the contract. Construction finally began in February 2026 with a four-month deadline, meaning the first phase should have been finished by June. Instead, the project has faced constant interruptions, reportedly worsened by delays in paying the construction company.

The situation has caused frustration, as the government’s promise to have the field ready by mid-August has not been met, leaving the facility unusable. The Socialist group points to these missed deadlines as a sign of broader inefficiency in the current administration’s management of public works, highlighting a clear gap between budgetary planning and the reality on the ground.
