Prosecutors in Tenerife are seeking prison sentences of up to seven years for three individuals accused of orchestrating a string of sophisticated home burglaries across the island.

The Santa Cruz de Tenerife Public Prosecutor’s Office is seeking prison sentences of six and a half to seven years for three people arrested at Tenerife South Airport in June 2025. Authorities seized 194 pieces of jewelry during the arrest, and the defendants have remained in custody since. They are charged with robbery and receiving stolen goods.

Investigators say the group used sophisticated methods, such as "bumping" or lock-picking, to enter private homes without leaving signs of forced entry. This made it difficult for homeowners to realize they had been robbed. Prosecutors link the group to burglaries at fourteen homes across the island, involving the theft of watches, coins, medals, pens, and nearly 5,500 euros in cash.

During preliminary hearings, prosecutors proposed charging the group with "continuous robbery," which would group the various thefts committed over the past year into a single criminal case. However, the judge has expressed reservations, noting that the exact timing and locations of all the burglaries have not yet been clearly established.

The case involves significant financial losses. While some victims were covered by insurance, prosecutors have dropped charges related to ten other complainants because there was insufficient evidence linking the defendants to those specific incidents. Regarding civil liability, an initial payment of 900 euros has been set, with further costs to be determined based on the appraised value of the items that were never recovered.
