
The Canary Islands are investing millions in the renovation and construction of social housing.
In the Canary Islands, a large-scale project worth 45 million euros envisages the renovation and construction of hundreds of social housing units throughout the island of Tenerife, with the support of the European Union and local authorities.
108 social housing units in the town of Candelaria (Tenerife) will be renovated in the Canary Islands. Local authorities have already approved a project that will make these apartments more energy-efficient and accessible for people with disabilities.
In total, it is planned to renovate five groups of social housing in the Canary Islands, including in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Telde, Candelaria, Adeje and El Rosario.
More than 5.5 million euros have been allocated for these works from the European Union's Next Generation funds. The money will go towards replacing electrical wiring, plumbing, heating and other important upgrades.
In addition, 65 new social housing units are planned to be built in La Orotava and another 13 in La Chacon in the Canary Islands.
Also, the Canary Housing Institute (ICAVI) has agreed with the local authorities of Tenerife to allocate 45 million euros for the construction and renovation of social housing in various cities of the island: Santiago del Teide, El Sauzal, Granadilla de Abona, Güímar, Los Realejos, San Miguel de Abona and El Rosario.
Thanks to program "6", another 59 energy-efficient apartments will be built in Arona, 51 in Adeje and 24 in Guía de Isora. The local authorities of Tenerife also contributed to the financing, allocating 4.4 million euros.
ICAVI also plans to renovate hundreds of apartments in various districts: La Hornera, Los Menceyes, Los Olivios, La Esperanza and Añaza.
Together with the state, ICAVI allocated 900 thousand euros (out of a total of 1.4 million) for the purchase of 12 apartments in La Laguna.
In addition, the authorities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife received an additional 2 million euros (plus 1 million from local authorities) for the purchase of 26 social housing units in the island's capital.
ICAVI is also investing 16.7 million euros in the construction of 37 apartments in María Jiménez and 226 apartments in Cuevas Blancas. The total cost of these projects will be 41 million euros.
The state-owned company Visocan is currently building 100 apartments in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 7 in La Orotava and 52 in Icod de los Vinos. This construction is financed by the Canary Housing Institute and the State Housing Plan.
