Police in Garachico rescued a German man in critical condition after he spent four days trapped inside his home.

Garachico police saved a German man’s life this week after he spent four days trapped in his home in the San Pedro de Daute neighborhood. The rescue began after a relative in Germany raised the alarm, noting that the man had missed his regular check-ins—a routine he strictly followed due to his medical history.

The incident highlights how vital community vigilance is in quieter areas. When officers arrived at the home and received no answer, they spoke with neighbors who confirmed they had seen the man looking unwell in the days prior. After hearing faint noises from inside, the officers climbed onto the roof to gain entry and unlock the front door.

Inside, they found the man in critical condition, suffering from severe dehydration and internal bleeding after being bedridden and isolated for 96 hours. A coordinated rescue effort followed: the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) stabilized the man, while firefighters from the Icod de los Vinos station carefully transported him to the hospital.

The successful rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of checking on neighbors who live alone, particularly those with health conditions. The quick collaboration between local police and emergency teams was essential in saving the man’s life.
