Police Prevent Potential Explosion at Tenerife Apartment Building
Police in La Laguna, Tenerife, arrested a 42-year-old woman after she barricaded herself in her apartment with gasoline and butane cylinders, successfully preventing a potential explosion.
Residents in La Laguna, Tenerife, were shaken early Thursday morning after police prevented a potential disaster at an apartment building near Camino de Las Mantecas. A 42-year-old woman has been taken into custody after threatening to blow up and set fire to her home.
Emergency services were alerted after neighbors called 1-1-2 to report the imminent danger. Officers from the local police force arrived at the scene and were forced to enter the apartment after concerns that the woman had barricaded herself inside.
Inside the property, police discovered four butane gas cylinders, a container of fuel, and clothing soaked in gasoline—all arranged in a way that suggested an attempt to start a fire. Fortunately, officers neutralized the threat before any damage was done or anyone was injured.
The woman is currently being held by the National Police and faces serious charges for her actions, which posed a significant risk to the safety of her neighbors. Authorities are now investigating the incident, including whether the woman’s behavior—which was captured on video by residents—was influenced by alcohol or drugs. This case has once again highlighted the challenges of managing residential conflicts, particularly when mental health or substance abuse issues are involved.
