Spanish authorities have launched an investigation after skeletal remains were recovered from rugged terrain near San Andrés in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The National Police have launched an investigation after skeletal remains were discovered in a rugged area of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The operation began early Wednesday near San Andrés, where the difficult terrain required the Tenerife Fire Consortium’s specialized rescue team to assist with the recovery.

The Scientific Police Brigade and the Homicide Group were deployed to the site to conduct a visual inspection and collect evidence. Due to the challenging location, the fire department’s Emergency Rescue Unit (URE) was responsible for transporting the remains to a secure facility.

The remains have now been moved to the Institute of Legal Medicine in Tenerife for a detailed forensic examination. This process is essential to confirm if the remains are human and to compare any genetic profiles against missing persons databases. Forensic experts will work to determine the identity of the individual, the time of death, and whether the circumstances suggest foul play, an accident, or natural causes.
