Police Investigate Linked Arson Attacks on Tenerife Businessman’s Properties
Spanish police are investigating whether two suspicious fires that destroyed properties owned by a prominent Tenerife restaurateur within six days of each other were targeted acts of intimidation.
National Police are investigating two suspicious fires at properties owned by a prominent restaurant businessman in southern Tenerife. Because the incidents occurred just six days apart, investigators are looking into whether they are connected and if they were intended to intimidate the business owner, who manages several high-profile leisure and hospitality venues in Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas.
The first incident occurred on April 19 at a residential property in a tourist area. Less than a week later, on April 25, a second fire completely destroyed a hospitality terrace in the El Beril area, near Playa del Duque. Firefighters from the Guía de Isora station, along with local police and security agents, responded to the scene, but the structure—made of wood and metal—was a total loss.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the businessman's high profile. He employs hundreds of people and is currently expanding his operations, including managing venues in busy nightlife hubs like the Verónicas shopping center.
Following the fire at El Beril, the Scientific Police conducted a thorough investigation and collected samples to determine the cause of the blaze. While no one was injured, the events have caused considerable alarm among local business owners. Police have been investigating the matter for a month and a half, focusing on whether the two fires share a common link.
