Police Investigate Arson Spree Across Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Public safety in Santa Cruz de Tenerife was severely disrupted last night by a wave of vandalism that caused widespread damage across the city. The National Police are now investigating the arson attacks, which kept local emergency services busy throughout the night.

The destruction went beyond just street furniture, putting both residents and private property at risk. Authorities report that 14 trash containers were burned, six vehicles were damaged—three of which were completely destroyed—and four palm trees were scorched.

The most serious incident took place on Sansón y Barrios Street in the Somosierra neighborhood just before 11:00 p.m. Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium had to intervene quickly to stop flames from spreading from burning trash bins to parked cars. This incident is now a primary focus of the police investigation.

Following the initial fire, the vandalism spread to other areas, including Manuel Hermoso Rojas Avenue and Alcalde José Emilio García Gómez, Panamá, and Celia Cruz streets. In these locations, six more containers were destroyed and three additional palm trees were damaged.

These acts are classified as property damage and arson, both of which are serious crimes that threaten public safety and place a significant financial burden on the city. Local and National Police are working together to gather evidence and identify those responsible for the sabotage.
