Police Hunt Gang Following Failed Overnight Robberies in Güímar Valley
The Civil Guard is searching for a group of suspects linked to a series of coordinated, failed break-ins at businesses in Güímar and Arafo early Tuesday morning.
Public safety in the Güímar Valley was shaken early Tuesday morning following two attempted robberies. Local authorities have launched a search for the suspects involved in the failed break-ins at a pharmacy in Güímar and a bar in Arafo.
The Civil Guard’s investigation unit in Güímar is currently reviewing the case. Based on initial reports, the suspects are described as several tall, thin men traveling in a van, possibly a Citroën Berlingo. Because the two attempts were well-coordinated, police suspect the work of a traveling criminal gang.
The first incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at the Plaza de San Pedro in Güímar. The group tried to pry open a pharmacy’s metal shutter using a large metal bar, likely a piece of scaffolding. When they failed to break in, they fled the scene. Shortly after, the same vehicle was spotted in the nearby town of Arafo, where the group attempted a similar break-in at a bar in the town square. Again, they were unsuccessful.
These incidents highlight the risks small businesses face in quieter areas during the night. Because the robberies were unsuccessful, the legal consequences for the perpetrators—if caught—will depend largely on the cost of the damage caused to the properties. The Civil Guard is continuing its investigation by reviewing security camera footage and tracking the group's escape routes.
