Police Dismantle Major Heroin Trafficking Hub in Tenerife
Spanish National Police have dismantled a major heroin distribution hub in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna, resulting in three arrests and the seizure of over 1.4 kilograms of narcotics.
Recent police operations in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and San Cristóbal de La Laguna have exposed ongoing opioid trafficking in the region. The National Police successfully dismantled a drug distribution hub operating across the Barranco Grande and Taco neighborhoods—an area that has been under close watch due to its social vulnerability.
The operation resulted in three arrests and the seizure of a significant amount of narcotics, including over 600 grams of pure heroin, 853 grams of adulterated heroin, and smaller quantities of cocaine and crack. The investigation, supported by the Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR) and La Laguna’s canine unit, revealed a well-organized supply chain designed to manage the risks of street-level sales.
From a public health perspective, the discovery of such large quantities of heroin highlights a persistent black market that continues to adapt to life in these peripheral neighborhoods. By dismantling this supply point, authorities have disrupted a structured operation that fueled addiction and social decline in the area. The case is now in the hands of the courts, underscoring the ongoing challenge of tackling small-scale drug trafficking across the islands.
