Police Dismantle Duo Behind Violent Tourist Robberies in Tenerife
Spanish police in Tenerife have arrested a pair of repeat offenders who used imitation firearms to carry out violent robberies against tourists.
Security in Tenerife’s busy tourist areas is back in the spotlight after police dismantled a pair accused of carrying out violent robberies. Local reports confirm that the suspects used imitation weapons to intimidate their victims—a tactic that, while common in street crime, has raised concerns about safety in key tourist hubs.
The incident occurred in the early hours of February 27. A 19-year-old woman was detained by pedestrians after she allegedly stole personal belongings from two tourists. The situation escalated when her 29-year-old partner tried to help her escape by brandishing what appeared to be a firearm, though it was later identified as a compressed air device.
Following an investigation, the National Police tracked the man down in his vehicle. Inside, they discovered ski masks and additional imitation handguns, suggesting the crimes were premeditated. A search of the motorhome where the pair lived—both of whom had prior criminal records—revealed a carbine, further highlighting the potential danger they posed.
These incidents remain a significant challenge for local security forces, who must respond quickly to prevent violence in crowded areas. The suspects have been handed over to the Magistrate's Court in Arona, which will decide on the next legal steps. While the recovery of the stolen items and the removal of the weapons have brought some relief to the area, the case serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for vigilance against repeat offenders.
