Police Discover Cannabis Plantation While Responding to House Fire in Tenerife

Police in Arafo, Tenerife, discovered a cannabis operation while responding to a house fire. Officers from the Güímar station arrived at the property to assist firefighters and noticed a greenhouse attached to the building. Inside, they found 26 cannabis plants, each nearly 1.80 meters tall.

The discovery highlights the challenges of monitoring drug activity in rural areas. Once the fire was extinguished, the 27-year-old property owner gave police permission to search the premises in front of witnesses. Officers seized all the plants at the scene.

The man is now facing charges for drug cultivation, a crime against public health under the Spanish Penal Code. The case has been handed over to the courts, which will determine the legal consequences based on the evidence collected. This investigation is part of an ongoing effort by the Civil Guard to crack down on illegal plantations across Tenerife.
