Canary Islands police arrested a man in Arona after a canine unit discovered 183.73 grams of hashish during a routine patrol near a hotel complex.

Specialized police units in the south of Tenerife have once again proven their effectiveness in detecting illegal drugs. During a routine patrol to maintain public order, officers arrested a man for a drug-related offense after a police dog helped uncover 183.73 grams of hashish.

The incident occurred near a hotel complex in Arona, where officers from the Canary Islands General Police (CGPC) were conducting surveillance. During the patrol, a police dog signaled a young man nearby, prompting officers to stop and search him. After discovering the drugs, the officers took the individual into custody and began legal proceedings.

This operation highlights the value of specialized training within regional security forces. The use of canine units not only speeds up police responses in busy tourist areas but also serves as a vital tool for deterring small-scale drug trafficking. The case has now been handed over to the judicial authorities.
