Police Bust Clandestine Drug Ring at Arona Nightclub After Barricading Incident
Spanish National Police arrested the owner and manager of a pub in Arona’s Las Verónicas district after discovering an organized drug-trafficking operation inside the venue.
A recent police operation in the Las Verónicas tourist district of Arona has once again highlighted the issue of illegal activity in nightlife hotspots. National Police officers arrested the owner and manager of a local pub after an inspection uncovered a clandestine drug-selling operation.
The incident began in the early hours of June 13, when officers on patrol noticed the bar was operating past its permitted hours. When police attempted to enter, staff refused to open the doors and blocked the exits from the inside. By trapping 97 people inside, the staff not only obstructed police work but also created a serious safety hazard. Officers were eventually forced to break into the building with the assistance of the Arona Local Police.
During the search, police seized a wide variety of drugs, including cocaine, ketamine, crack, MDMA, marijuana, hashish, poppers, and nitrous oxide. The discovery of precision scales, packaging materials, and small denominations of cash led investigators to conclude that the venue was being used as an organized drug distribution hub.
In addition to the arrests, several customers were cited for drug possession under the Citizen Security Law. The Local Police have also launched administrative proceedings against the pub for multiple safety and licensing violations.
This operation underscores the ongoing challenge of policing busy tourist areas where illegal establishments and drug trafficking often overlap. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are encouraging the public to report suspicious activity through the official anti-drug reporting channel.
