A new "Poetic Anthology" exploring the life and work of José Galán Hernández, a progressive intellectual and poet murdered in 1936, will be launched next Tuesday, December 9, at 7:00 PM at La Laguna's San Borondón Hall.

The San Borondón Hall in La Laguna, home to the Center for Canarian Popular Culture (CCPC), will host the launch of "Poetic Anthology" next Tuesday, December 9, at 7:00 PM. This book explores the life and work of José Galán Hernández. Co-edited by the Güímar City Council and the CCPC, the presentation will be given by Octavio Rodríguez, who wrote the prologue, and Arístides Galán, the poet's son.

José Galán Hernández was a progressive intellectual who was murdered in 1936, at the start of the Civil War. Born in Tacoronte in 1893, he led a varied life. He worked as a teacher, served as an Artillery sergeant, and was mayor of Fasnia. He also founded the Güímar Socialist Group and was secretary of the Federation of Education Workers. Beyond these roles, he was a writer, journalist, and poet.

His love for literature drew him to the poetry circles in La Laguna, where Manuel Verdugo was a leading figure. Much of his poetry was published in various newspapers and magazines, including La Región, El Progreso, Voz del Magisterio Canario, Gaceta de Tenerife, Las Noticias, DIARIO DE AVISOS, and Obreros de la Cultura.
