Plaza de España Car Park Repairs Complete, Deemed Safe
Repairs demanded by the Santa Cruz City Council have been completed on the Plaza de España underground car park, making it structurally safe again before the council takes over its management in July.
Repairs have been completed on the underground car park in Plaza de España, Santa Cruz, making it structurally safe once more. The City Council had demanded these fixes from the company in charge, Interparking.
The city's involvement began after problems were found in the car park's floor slabs, including corroded metal supports and crumbling material. This situation highlights the importance of local councils overseeing critical facilities managed by private companies.
The City Council gave Interparking 72 hours, starting last Friday, to fix the issues. They warned that if the company didn't act, the council would do the work itself and charge Interparking for it. Councilor Carlos Tarife reported that all the council's technical requirements have been met. The repairs were approved last Wednesday, confirming the car park is now stable.
This incident comes before a change in how the car park is run. From July, the Santa Cruz City Council's Municipal Housing department will take over its management. One planned improvement is adding an internal lift to make the car park fully accessible.
