Puerto de la Cruz authorities have closed the Playa Grande Centro sector of Playa Jardín to swimmers for the fourth time in three months due to recurring microbiological contamination.

Swimming has once again been banned at the Playa Grande Centro sector of Playa Jardín as of Wednesday, October 7. The Puerto de la Cruz City Council announced the closure after the Tenerife Health Area reported that routine water quality tests found microbiological contamination, making the area unsafe for bathers.

This is the fourth time the beach has been closed in just over three months, a pattern that is causing growing frustration among locals. This latest ban comes only a week after a similar closure on October 1, which was linked to the presence of sewage. These repeated incidents suggest a deeper, ongoing issue with water quality in this part of Tenerife.

For now, the City Council has put up signs to warn the public, but officials have not yet identified the specific source of the contamination or provided a date for when the beach might reopen. They stated only that they are conducting technical checks to ensure the water is safe.

The frequent closures have sparked criticism online, with many residents questioning why temporary fixes are being used instead of a permanent solution to the beach's instability. While the Council has promised to provide updates as new test results come in, the ongoing uncertainty has turned the state of Playa Jardín into a significant public health concern that many feel requires more than just temporary warning signs.
