Water management in Tenerife is under scrutiny again after a technical mishap left several areas of Los Realejos without water. Local officials report that a main pipeline was accidentally punctured during road improvement work on the TF-333 highway, a project managed by the island’s Cabildo.
This incident highlights the risks to urban water infrastructure when large-scale construction projects are underway. The break, located in the La Zamora area, has forced the municipal water company, Aquare, to shut off the supply to a wide area. Affected locations include La Trinidad Street, the TF-333 highway, and residential neighborhoods such as La Grimona, Ciudad Jardín, La Higuerita, Los Afligidos, and the entire La Montaña district.
Maintenance crews are currently on-site working to repair the pipe and restore service. While the local council is pushing for a quick resolution, there is no confirmed timeline for when water will be back on for homes and businesses. The situation serves as a reminder of the need for better coordination between island and local authorities to ensure that road improvements do not disrupt essential public services.
