Perfect Week Lifts Tenerife B Back into Promotion Zone

Tenerife B secured nine points from three consecutive wins, including a 2-0 victory over Intercity, propelling them back into the promotion play-off positions.

Tenerife B had a perfect week, winning all their matches. This included a 2-0 victory against Moscardó two Sundays ago, a 2-1 win over Rayo Vallecano B in a rescheduled game, and yesterday's 2-0 triumph against Intercity. Intercity, despite their experience, struggled to score, missing four clear chances, including one with an open goal by Cristian Herrera. Tenerife B, however, showed excellent finishing in the final stages, with goals from Loren Sánchez and Juan Ybarra.

These nine points mean coach Leandro Cabrera's team, known as Mazinho, are back in the promotion play-off places. The team has also been boosted by the loan signings of Alberto Ulloa and Fran Sabina, who have added more presence and attacking power. They still have a "small derby" match to play, which was postponed until March 11.

For the match, Mazinho stuck with the same starting lineup he used on Wednesday against Rayo B. This meant Ulloa played alongside Dylan, with Fran Sabina as the main striker. While this gave them more control in midfield, they lacked attacking depth and runs into the box. Their only real threat in the first half was a header from Guillem Trilla (41') that hit the crossbar, set up by Juan Ybarra after a long period of play just before halftime.

After halftime, Mazinho quickly made changes to boost the team's rhythm. Omar was brought on to improve ball movement, and Loren Sánchez joined Fran Sabina up front to put more pressure on Intercity's defenders. Tenerife B began to finish their attacks, pushing Quique Hernández's team back and creating more dangerous opportunities. One such chance saw Fran Sabina unable to score, with veteran goalkeeper Ian Mackay out of position after a poor clearance.

Their persistence paid off after another warning shot, following a free-kick from Omar Sánchez on the wing. Trilla sent the ball long to the far post, Giovanni headed it back into the crowded area, and in the ensuing scramble, Loren Sánchez managed to get a shot away, scoring his second goal of the season. Unfortunately, Loren Sánchez was injured in the process and replaced by Viti.

Intercity looked disoriented, and their substitutions didn't change the game's pace. Tenerife B continued to push for a bigger lead. They missed two chances to extend their advantage, and Mackay made a superb save from another Fran Sabina shot, before the second goal finally came. Juan Ybarra scored it after a well-worked move: Giovanni García fiercely won the ball, passed it to Omar, who set up Viti in the penalty area. Viti then delivered the ball for Ybarra, who was unmarked, to finish.

With these nine points from nine, Tenerife B are back in a strong position, similar to the start of the season, and are now firmly in the race for promotion to Primera RFEF. They still have a derby match against Las Palmas Atlético to play. They currently sit fifth, level on points with sixth-placed Conquense. They are also just two points behind Getafe B in fourth, and three behind Coria in third. This means the reserve team has successfully reignited their promotion challenge at a crucial time.

What's more, their next match will be at home, at the Javier Pérez Sports City. Next Sunday, they will host Navalcarnero, a team fighting to avoid relegation to Tercera División. This will be Tenerife B's third consecutive home game, having already secured wins against Rayo B and Intercity at the same venue.
