Pedro Torres' 'Glimpse' Art Installation Opens Free in Tenerife
Brazilian artist Pedro Torres's new art installation, 'Glimpse,' offers fleeting realities through constant movement, color, and sound at Tenerife's El Tanque Cultural Space until April 5.
Step inside the El Tanque Cultural Space and discover a world of constant movement, color, and sound. These elements blend together to offer brief, fleeting glimpses of reality. This experience is called 'Glimpse,' a new art installation by Brazilian artist Pedro Torres. You can visit it for free until April 5 at the old oil depot in Tenerife's capital.
Diana Padrón (born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in 1984), who curated the exhibition, explains that a 'glimpse' means a quick, incomplete look at something. She believes our current times are unclear and uncertain. "The only thing we can predict for 2026 is uncertainty," she says, "we can't imagine where the world is going." Padrón notes that frightening predictions and dark future scenarios seem to be everywhere, while information—and our attention—moves incredibly fast. "Everything passes, everything is forgotten, and nothing seems to leave a trace," she adds. "But perhaps, a brief glimpse can keep some kind of promise alive."
Pedro Torres, who lives in Barcelona, has tailored his art to fit the unique features of this cultural space. He invites visitors to dive into an experience that blends technology, art, and how we perceive things.
Born in Glória de Dourados in 1982, Pedro Torres is known for exploring light, time, and how we see things. For 'Glimpse,' he has created an installation using looped digital video, artificial fog, mirrored and dichroic acrylics, fabrics, motors, sound, and various light sources. This creates an environment that is always changing. The artwork encourages visitors to enter a space where every moment feels like a quick flash, a glimpse of reality that is only just revealed.
