Over three days, participants competed in various stages: TEA GranFondo, Volcano GranFondo, and an individual mountain race in San Andrés y Sauces. These stages are already well-known on the island.
On Friday, September 12, the tour began with a mountain race in San Andrés y Sauces. Pedro Rodríguez Mesa and Elena Cerdeña Rodríguez were the first to finish, followed by Daniel Kiekrok and Jenny Schulz. Carlos Alberto Rodríguez Brito and Patricia García García also made it to the podium.
On Saturday, September 13, participants competed in the TEA GranFondo in the north of the island. Pedro Rodríguez Mesa and Jenny Schulz once again took first place, with Daniel Kiekrok and Elena Cerdeña Rodríguez in second. Carlos Alberto Rodríguez Brito and Patricia García García finished third. In the TEA MedioFondo category, Carlos Afonso Rodríguez and Zaira Hernández Martín won, Neftalí García Martín and Laura Sánchez came in second, and Josué Martín Arrocha and Isabel Campos Marrero finished third.
On Sunday, September 14, the Volcano race took place through the southern volcanic part of the island. In the Volcano GranFondo category, Pedro Rodríguez Mesa and Elena Cerdeña Rodríguez once again won, with Daniel Kiekrok and Jenny Schulz taking second place. Alberto Calero Valiente and Patricia García García completed the podium. In the MedioFondo category, Carlos Afonso Rodríguez and Isabel Campos Marrero were first, Neftalí García Martín and Ana Begoña González Francisco were second, and Diego Coen Carranza and Laura Sánchez were third.
450 cyclists took part in the cycling tour. Vuelta La Palma was notable not only for its high level of sport, but also for the large number of participants from different countries (17 nationalities). Also, 15% of the participants were women, which is a fairly high figure for this sport. The majority of participants (75%) came from outside the island, making this an international event.
Thanks to this format, Vuelta La Palma gives cyclists the opportunity to see different parts of the island – from the green mountains in the north to the volcanic landscapes in the south. It is not only a sporting competition, but also a great opportunity for tourism, which makes La Palma an important center for cycling tourism.
